The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Pittsburgh, which hadn’t won in five games since March 29 against the Kansas City Royals. They are now 63-74 on the season.

Bae Ji-hwan, who had a multi-hit game the previous day (March 3), was removed from the lineup in favor of left-hander Zach Thompson. However, he did not see any action as a pinch hitter or defensive replacement.

Pittsburgh scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game after falling behind 1-3 on the day.

But the balance was quickly upset. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the fourth, second-stringer Ryan Borucki gave up an RBI double to Alec Burleson.

Pittsburgh added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when, after allowing an infield single with two outs, second baseman Vinny Capra made a throwing error.

The Pirates had the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, but Miguel Andujar grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.

Pittsburgh starter Johan Oviedo fell to 14-8 on the season after allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits (one home run) with six walks and two strikeouts in 3⅔ innings. Oviedo is now tied for second in the majors in losses behind Jordan Lyles (4-15, Kansas City).
