메이저놀이터 The KBO referee committee announced on the 20th that the judgment of the 4th match at Jamsil Stadium was wrong.
The KBO said that in the bottom of the ninth inning of the game between LG and Hanwha held in Jamsil on the 20th, the situation between hitter Joo-Hyun Jung and catcher Jae-Hoon Choi was not interference with batting, but interference with defense.
The situation was as follows. In the bottom of the 9th inning, with no one out on first base, Jung Joo-hyun, who was at bat, threw a bat to hit the ball thrown by opposing pitcher Park Sang-won to sign a hit and run. And catcher Choi Jae-hoon came forward to catch Park Sang-won’s outside ball and throw it to second base. In the process, Choi Jae-hoon was hit by Jung Joo-hyun’s bat, and Shin Min-jae, who was already a runner on first base, attempted to steal second base.
While the game was stopped as Choi Jae-hoon complained of pain, the referees reached a four-point agreement over the situation at the time. And as a result of the agreement, Choi Jae-hoon declared that he would interfere with the strike, and Jung Joo-hyun went on base. 1st and 2nd base were safe, but LG failed to score as Kim Min-seong hit a ground ball from 3rd base and Park Hae-min hit a fly to center fielder. Both teams tied 1-1 after 12 extra innings.
However, the referee committee pointed out that the decision of the 4-sim agreement was wrong. The KBO said, “The decision was made through a 4-sim agreement to block Hanwha Choi Jae-hoon’s strike. However, as a result of additional confirmation by the KBO referee committee, it was a situation that should have been judged as defensive interference rather than hitting interference. Accordingly, the KBO refereeing committee plans to take follow-up measures such as disciplinary action.”
According to a KBO official, “It was correct to view Jung Joo-hyun’s throwing of the bat as a defense interference. Choi Jae-hoon came forward first, received the ball, and threw it, and the referee judged it as defensive interference. Choi Jae-hoon’s play was a normal play. Prior to this, the referee committee judged that Jung Joo-hyun threw a bat and interfered with the defense.”
On the other hand, referee Kwon Young-chul, the chief referee, clashed with LG Park Hae-min over the strike zone decision. In the bottom of the 12th inning, Park Hae-min expressed dissatisfaction with Jung Woo-ram’s first pitch being called a strike. Park Hae-min hit the first baseman head-on and threw his helmet to the ground, and referee Kwon Yeong-cheol approached Park Hae-min heading to the dugout. Judge Kwon Young-chul continued to approach the LG dugout, and a collision occurred again.
