A man in his 30s who brandished a deadly weapon at Kim Sang-wook, 29, a mixed martial arts fighter from the special forces UDT, has been sentenced to prison.

The Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 29 sentenced A, 33, who was charged with attempted murder, to three years in prison and therapeutic supervision, according to legal sources on Monday.

The man was accused of attempting to kill Kim Sang-wook in April last year by swinging a weapon at him several times in front of a mixed martial arts gym in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Kim was injured in the arm and wrist and was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and sent home.

The man had reportedly been training in martial arts at the gym for several months. He claimed that while he was learning the sport, Kim ignored him and harassed him under the guise of sparring.

He also allegedly assaulted a police officer in a police station holding cell and poured hot water on a detainee in a detention center.

He claimed in court that he did not intend to kill Kim Sang-wook, but the court did not buy it. He had prepared the weapon in advance and the wounds were considered to be intentional.

“If Mr. Kim had failed to defend himself in a timely manner, it could have resulted in the loss of life,” the court said, adding that “severe punishment is inevitable.” However, the court considered that Mr. A had been treated for mental illness and that he committed the crime in a state of mental and physical weakness, taking into account the findings of a doctor at the National Legal Hospital.

“If he does not receive proper treatment, there is a risk of recidivism,” the court said. 메이저사이트
