The Phoenix Suns are looking at several candidates for their head coaching position.
“According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, the Suns will meet with Kenny Atkinson (Golden State) and Charles Lee (Milwaukee).
Phoenix has already met with a number of people. They are reportedly considering former head coach Nick Nurse, former head coach Frank Vogel, former head coach Doc Rivers, coach Jordy Fernandez (Sacramento), and head coach Kevin Young (Phoenix) as possible candidates.
However, Phoenix has reportedly not stopped there and is willing to meet with Atkinson and Lee. Atkinson has head coaching experience, and Lee has been a consistent candidate for the next head coach for years. Both are also receiving interest from other organizations. Milwaukee is reportedly interested in Atkinson and Detroit is interested in Lee.
“The Stein Line’s Mark Stein believes Phoenix is more likely to hire Young. It’s hard to know exactly what’s going on here, as the news is changing all the time, but Young isn’t the only former coach being talked about. However, it remains to be seen if an outsider will be able to get the job, as the will of Phoenix’s core players is also important.
However, of the former and current coaches on the shortlist so far, the former has championship experience. Of the current coaches, only Lee has won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, but his lack of experience as a head coach makes him a cautious bet. Phoenix is a major contender, so it makes sense for them to be cautious with their head coach.
In the meantime, Phoenix is not expected to make many roster changes for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. The core of their roster is still under contract. The key will be if they don’t trade DeAndre Ayton. As a reminder, Aitken agreed to a deal with the Indiana Pacers last summer, but the move fell through when Phoenix agreed to match 안전놀이터.
