Seongnam FC of the professional soccer K-League 2 (second division) recruited striker Shin Jae-won (25) as a free agent. Shin Jae-won is the son of Shin Tae-yong, the current coach of the Indonesian national soccer team.
Shin Jae-won, who spent his childhood in Australia, went through the U16 national team by age group. After graduating from high school, he went to Korea University and played an active part in winning the 2017 University Wangjungwangjeon and scoring 10 points in 12 U-League games in 2018.
Shin Jae-won started his professional career with FC Seoul in the 2019 season and was named to the U23 national team training roster. After that, he went through Ansan and Suwon FC. He has scored 1 point in 32 matches in his K-League career.
Shin Jae-won can play both wing forward and wing back. His dribbling and shooting through his quick feet, and his long-distance crossing ability are considered his strengths.
Seongnam coach Lee Ki-hyeong said, “I am a player who can participate in both defense and offense.”
Shin Jae-won said, “I am grateful to the coach who called me to take on a new challenge in Seongnam,” and said, “I will work hard to become a long-remembered player in Seongnam.”
After completing the medical test at Bundang Best Hospital, Shin Jae-won joins Chiang Mai, Thailand, the club’s first winter training ground.
Shin Jae-won’s father, Shin Tae-yong, is a representative figure who led Seongnam’s heyday in the past.
From 1992 to 2004, Shin Tae-yong played for Ilhwa Chunma, Cheonan Ilhwa, and Seongnam Ilhwa, the predecessors of Seongnam FC, before retiring. His career records are 99 goals and 68 assists in 401 games. Shin Tae-yong also succeeded as a manager in Seongnam. Shin Tae-yong, who has been in charge of Seongnam since 2009, won the AFC Champions League in 2010.
Coach Shin Tae-yong once played with Lee Ki-hyung. Coach Lee Ki-hyung worked with Shin as a player in Seongnam Ilhwa from 2003 to 2004.
