After a scintillating Saturday of MLB playoff action, the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies are moving on to the NLCS and the Houston Astros are off to the ALCS for the sixth straight season. Will they be joined by the New York Yankees or Cleveland Guardians?
Last night, it looked like the Yankees would be playing to clinch tonight, as they led 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth at Progressive Field.
But the Guardians scored three runs in the final frame, with Oscar Gonzalez driving in the tying and winning runs with a two-out, two-strike, two-run single to deliver a 6-5 win and a 2-1 lead for the home team.
So, tonight it will be Cleveland playing to clinch instead. Will we see another series end in four games, or will the last unfinished Division Series be the only one to go the maximum five games?

So far, the MLB playoffs have been all about getting a good start.
In the four Wild Card series, the Guardians, Mariners, Padres, and Phillies all won their series after winning Game 1.
In this round, the Guardians, Padres, and Phillies all earned a split on the road in the first two games, while the Astros won their two home games to start their series against the Mariners.
The Padres, Phillies, and Astros have all advanced, and the Guardians are a win away from doing so. Based on how the other three series played out, it’s hard not to like the home team to get it done tonight, especially at these odds.
Home and Away Splits for Cal Quantrill and Gerrit Cole (2022 Regular Season
Cal Quantrill at home: 19 starts, 9-0, 3.28 ERA, 112.1 IP, 97 H, 42 R (41 ER), 14 HR, 25 BB, 74 K, .234 OBA, 1.09 WHIP
Gerrit Cole on the road: 17 starts, 8-3, 3.81 ERA, 99.1 IP, 76 H, 45 R (42 ER), 19 HR, 33 BB, 121 K, .208 OBA, 1.10 WHIP
Cole was excellent in the Yankees’ 4-1 win in Game 1, allowing one run (on a third-inning homer by Steven Kwan), four hits, and one walk and striking out eight, while Quantrill allowed four runs, four hits, and three walks in his five innings in taking the loss.
That loss was just the Guardians’ second in Quantrill’s last 18 starts, and Cleveland was 15-4 in his home starts in the regular season (7-6 in his road starts).
With how well Cleveland has performed in Quantrill’s home starts this season and how well teams have done with the chance to clinch so far in the postseason, I really like the Guardians to close things out tonight at Progressive Field.
